MAS gets a makeover!

Recommended Posts

Well guys 'n gals,

What d'ya think? I can tell by all the changes someone has been busier that a one-armed paper hanger. (not me!)

Logged out for a minute to grab some chips and a cold one and look what happens....can't turn my back on Radar for a second!

Kind of like a breath of fresh air me thinks...

Be sure to check out the different skins at bottom left of forums index!

Cheers, Tim

(my pic's still look the same though!)

It's taken a moment to get used to it, but as I always tell the kids, a change is as good as a holiday.

Thanks guys. I still have a lot to do. I'm making a skin that has a whiter background for those of you that don't like black. The arcade is up and running, so be warned, I'm an asteroid fanatic, high scores stay forever.

Groping in the dark

These 76 year old peepers are having problems reading black on blue and black on purple, esp at 2.30 in the morning. Like trying to spot the coalman on a very dark night.

Just spent a while in Armadale Hospital (WA) the old back is shot, ostereoarthritis has eaten around L4/5 half the spine away. I am now on a Carer's programme and 2.5 month rehab programme Not sure what the future holds. Spinal fusion is out of the question. Apparently too bad and too old.

See ya all down at the knacker's yard. Looks like I may be having a garage sale before long.......

Sorry to hear about your back problems Dave , I sympathize. I also have back problems around the same area(L4/5) albeit different. I was lucky? enough to be able to have surgery(laminectomy) a couple of years ago, but all that has achieved is I no longer have pins and needles, I still have pain 24/7 and if I overdo the lifting etc I pay for a week. It is the main reason I built my obs, so I didn't have to lug the kit out of the shed every time I wanted to have a session. Anyway mate good luck with it all.

Cheers Shane

Sorry to hear about the state of things for you too Dave.....hope you can hang on to whatever you can from AA for as long as possible mate - my hope is that however things go there's a small scope to poke out of a skyward window (or even hold in my hands!) whilst the body is willing...

Hopefully Ray will give us a few colour combos because, as you say, black on blue can be a bit hard to read.

But I'm sure everyone appreciates all the hard work that has been put into this new site presentation..!:thumbsupmate:

ps: like the new "More" smilies layout..!

pps: I've just noticed you're a ham radio man also Dave.....my old man (who died last year aged 93) was an old ham - VK5MU - and I spent yesterday going through boxes of old valves and gear that is still filling my sheds.....

Hey there Dave,

Down in the bottom left hand corner of the forums index, there is a box in which you can choose your viewing screen. Click on it and it gives you several different options, try the "vb4 default" style.

Dat's kool Tim. I tried the Blonk on Schwartz. I have one of those eBook reader gizmos and the night reading mode is white print on black and I find that very easy on the eyes. Black on white can be a bit violent if reading a large tome.

Thanks. Yeh the old back is just not going to go away, they got me on those Oxycotone tabs (slow release) and boy are they slow release, just bought out the Health Shops supply of prunes !!

Occ therapy delivered today a nice ergo chair and other mechanical devices to make life easier. Actually I would like to build an extra story over one of the rooms of the house, with a lift access and have an Obs up there plus a computer and ham shack. So I am opening the Scorpius benevolent fund.

I will at least try and get on here more often, I am climbing out of a big hole at present.

Yep and I am also trying to get rid of a lot of old radio junk which I will never use, the cleanup was part of my demise.

I recall those times; rather unpleasant mate. I was on Morphine and Panadeine Forte for almost two years. Now I only have to take Panadeine Forte a couple of times a week, thank god.

I just tried the selection of skins.

Black, Black, Black, or this Blue with Black text!

That's all it has.

And I have to be honest, I don't like the new layout of the site.

Sorry Ray, but there had to be one of us that didn't like it LOL!

I opened the Forum home page and spent the next 5 minutes trying to work out where everything is, and I'm still not sure. It just seems more complicated and a big mess :duh:

Oh well, others like it and they are here more often than me :emoticon-misc-003:

I appreciate the work gone into the makeover but like Ken, I'm also finding it unnecessarily complicated. After saying that, it'll just take some time to work everything out. Nice work guys.

I'm going to make a suggestion to Radar on two of the skins. This would be making changes to skins 3 and 4, as I think the others are fine. I like skin 5 and the vb4 default.

For one, I would like to see a "night vision" skin. Red background, black text, etc.

For those who don't like ANY of the available skins, here's your chance to make a color scheme suggestion that you think would work.

Thanks Ray and all for keeping this thing going. I like many don't like "change" when i've become used to soimething and like it the way it is.. so when this first showed up as blue and white with black lettering, I wasn't thrilled. But I do appreciate the effort and commitment that goes into a voluteer effort on behalf of us all, and now that I can see photos against a black background, I'm good with this new format. I do need to figure out how to post photos with a link, tried Picasa first but I clicked something in it and it tired to post every photo I've ever taken on the site, so I had to kill it with a stick before my grand children were posted to the great un-washed out there. I still do want to post only astro images somehow, so I'll have another go at it.

cheers and thansk to all for the update

Making assumptions here but from what I've seen, photos get uploaded to an album, & then we link to the photo in order to display it in a forum section...Is this correct..?

Nope...you can, but to get them in your post click on the file attachment icon as always, after the window opens, there is a box in the upper right hand corner that says "add files."

Select your image as usual, then upload. After it is uploaded it should appear in the attachment box and should already be "checked" with a checkmark.

Then just click the "insert inline," "done," and that should be it.

Every "attachment" one has uploaded to this site via this method is manageable from this window or through your user control panel. I myself have 186!

IF one wants to use an off-site image host such as "flicker," or "photobucket," there are a couple of options.

You can copy'n paste the IMG code in your post (remeber to check it using the "preview post" button...)

Or you can use the "insert link" option and copy'n paste the "direct link" (URL) to your image.

Or you can also use the "insert image" icon, which works the same way as "insert link." Just insert the image URL.

Now, let's see some pic's!

Cheers, Tim.

How about going back to the previous Layout and colours. :eartoear:

You know the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The previous Forum looked good and was easy to use. :thumbsupmate:

Change for Change's sake doesn't always work. :duh:

Radar has been very busy and I would like to add my observation that it is for the better. Well done.

My 2Cents - re: the new makeover for MyAstroSpace.com - well initially I was stunned to say the least with the gaudy color schemes and very "confusing" layout - though I can see that improvements have been made in regards to the boiler-plate notification area on the right hand side of the screen which gives you an idea of what's been posted newly.

Seeing that this forum is run using VBulletin, perhaps (as a suggestion only) a range of their default schemes be also included in the list of choices rather than the ones that Ray would spend time creating

Anyway I've chosen to use Skin 6 for the time being

Best of luck to the continued improvements :yesplease:

HTH

Cheers

Bill
