You have talent Ken thanks for posting' date=' I would like to see some more of your works as well.[/quote']

I second that.....

One question, how do you do a side profile self portrait. Are you working from a photo or web cam or some clever mirror work.

I know....my mind works in mysterious ways, but I am intrigued...

The self-portrait is from a photo

It was funny coz as I was sketching it, I said to myself "hmmm . . is that what I look like" :lmao:

Here are three of my resin kits i sculpted when i was back in the uk.

The first 'alien crawler' is from the alien3 film, by the way they oriental sounding name was made up by the company, but its one of mine:itsme!:

The second is of a half size queen face hugger, again from alien3.

The third, and one i am still quite proud of is totaly made up, thats my blurred mug behind it in the pic.

How does a resin kit work? Do you pour something into a mould?

Hi ray,

Part1..

first off you get your scuplture. Beit in clay, wax or other sculpting medium. most sculptors i know would use a wire armature that is fixed to a board or somthing.

pic1 is what the sculpt may look like, i rarely take pics of sculptures:frown:

Then a card tube is made and fixed around the sculpture using silicon sealant.

Then a catylist curing rubber is poured into the tube and alowed to 'go off'

This mould is then taken away from the tube and board and cut with a scalpel along pre-determined routes across the sculpture, so the sculpture can be taken out.

Simple house hold sticky tape or elastic bands are placed around the mould to keep it together and a two part resin and catylist mix the poured in.

The cuts allow the resin cast as a whole to be safely removed.

If a kit is to be produced, then this first 'master' cast is cut up into pieces and re-moulded to make individual resin casts of the parts.

I liked to go a step further and make locations for the parts, but many kits don't have them.

Part2.

Here are two pics of the alien and hack, they have been cast in a super fast setting Polyeurothane resin.

The kits parts have mould seam lines on them and are cleaned up by the kit builder.

Then they can be primed and painted:biggrin:

Again.....weird, but i have sculpted nicer stuff, but i tended to forget to photograph them. (back when i had no 300D:frown:)

All the best........

Tony.....
