This shot was taken on Sunday night from Golden Grove.
It is only a thirty minute exposure, I should have gone longer. I will go much longer next month.
Shot through Tak Epsilon 160, Autoguiding ST4, Gemini G11 through a Pentax SP2.

Nice!
Excuse my ignorance Ray, but if you go for a longer exposure next time, you'll get more detail in the clouds etc. but won't you over-expose the bright regions even more and risk washing out some of that hard-won detail? Or am I just not understanding what you're after?

You are right Jim. The standard thing to do when this happens, is take a few short exposures as well. One and five minutes. These short exposures will show the faint detail inside the core, then it's just a matter of using photoshop to stack to shorter exposures over the long exposures. This puts the detail back into the photo.

Yeah Pat, this was from my bush trip. I haven't really done any processing to this shot either. I have some other shots that I need to process. Just haven't had the time yet.

Of course, I should have realised the process. Duh!
There's another tutorial for you Ray! One that shows how to stack astrophotographs in programmes like Photoshop and blend them to show the detail in different areas.
There are a number of good web sites with PS tutorials, some free and some by subscription only. For a couple of Australian ones, check out http://www.magicpixel.com.au/html/workwel.html and http://tutorials.ausweb.com.au/hosting/Tutorials/Photoshop-and-Design/ (free basic tutorials) or http://www.savva.com.au/ (subscription only).

Thanks for the comments guys.
Move to DSLR? Not sure Dave. I do want to get one. I'm building an observatory in my backyard soon, because I want to do some tri colour imaging with this Meade DSI I bought. Once I've learnt the ropes on that, I'll aquire a DSLR.
