These images are my trusty sony cybershot with a wide angle lens from Kings Park, Perth.
I'm glad I used the wide angle lens for these shots, it shows the cloudy conditions Perthlings were faced with.
Usually I would have swapped to the teleconversion lens to zoom in on the moon but there really wasn't enough photo opportunities.

It's a great shame it was so overcast for you 'Perthlings' Ray. Still, they're nice pics of the blazing Perth cityscape!
A totally overcast and very windy day here yesterday gave way around 7.30pm to a still and very clear night, affording us a wonderful view of the whole event. Today is again completely overcast with strong winds. You wouldn't be a weather forecaster for quids, eh?

Cheers guys. We still had fun with a super duper laser pointer and the residents living in high rise apartments with no curtains.

Hi,
Well at least you will remember the 2007 event for the cloud cover - shame for all those who were clouded out. It was the same here, clear as a bell on my side of the river and clouded out on the Hobart side. I had people contacting me to ask if I could see it with my telescope!!
I pointed them to the Discovery Channel, so at least they will have seen something.
Better luck next time...

Hi Ray'
Great city-scape shot there. It's always good to get people together for these kinds of events so its still worthwhile from that point of view.
Was that film or digital?

Was that film or digital?
These shots are taken through a sony cybershot camera Mike. So they are not the traditional DSLR type shots, but still digital. I had two film cameras with me and two rolls of slide film, but because of the weather I decided to wait before I loaded my cameras with the film. Needless to say, I never ended up loading my film because of the bad weather, so I only ended up with those digital shots. Had the weather gone my way I would have shot both rolls and been posting film shots.
I'm going to get an adapter for my Sony cybershot. I'm interested to see what it can do with prime focus photography.

Hi Ray,
Better Luck next time. The moons a good target for just a single shot through the camera but a few of the other bods get even better results stacking multiple images but I guess with the shadow moving so quickly in an eclipse you wouldn't want to stack to many together.

Hi Ray,
Can you remove the camera lens on the Sony Cybershot?

Lovely shots Ray! :welldone:
They also bring back many memories for me in my late teenage years. That was 1987....Wow! Perth skyline has changed heaps!:duh:

Yeah I was going to use some really fine grain film for this event. Was hpoing to get some really smooth (no noise) images. I guess I'll have to wait for the next one.

Hmm? Not really Shev. I can attach lenses to it, but not remove the main lens, though there probably are some guru's around the place that have done it.
I've seen adapters for this camera so I might look into getting one.

Yeah Perth has changed heaps over the last decade. Still needs to change a bit more though. Less street lighting would be a good start.

Hi Ray,
If you cannot remove the camera lens, then you cannot do 'prime focus' photography with a telescope, only 'afocal' using the telescope EP as well.
Clear skies...
