Hi
Well it's not really from Canberra. R Jay Gabany was generous enough to give me some time on his 20" Ritchey Chretien located in New Mexico and this was the result. I was of course located in Canberra and accessed the scope over the internet.

The seeing wasn't perfect but I thought the result wasn't too bad.
Cheers

Beaut one Steve! I see you captured a galaxy in the background. What is it?
I love it! You have inspired me to have a go at it now.:thumbsupmate:

G'day Steve,
Great image. Excellent contrast in the nebula. What does 1x1 mean? Also do you know what mount the RC was riding on?
Cheers

Thanks Baz. The galaxy is IC1296. There are some other fainter ones in the field but you have to look hard to find them. Bear in mind that the ring only gets up no more than about 20 degrees above the horizon at the latitude of Canberra so it's not an easy target from down here.

Thanks Ray. 1x1 means that the pixels are unbinned which is recommended for maximum resolution. The mount is a Paramount. If you look at Jay's website:
http://www.cosmotography.com
you can see all the details about the scope.

What an awesome setup this guys got. You must have loved using this Steve.
One question I have though is that the guidescope looks way to small for this 20 inch RC. I imagine the STL11000 is a self guiding camera?

Yes it is, as are almost all of the SBIG cameras.

Gidday Steve,
That's a very nice image. I like the contrast between the very colourful nebula and the inky blackness of space. I particularly like the scale of the image too.
Great work.
