Nice one Tony :thumbsupmate: had a quick peek outside last night and was tempted to have a few runs at Jup myself but some cloud around and err it was cold. Just wondering if you have tried balancing the color a little, in photoshop I sometimes just use the Auto-color adjustment command which works good {if you have Astra Image you can do a quick fix by splitting the image into RGB frames and then re-combine which helps with the color balance} and then use the Eliptical marquee tool to highlight the planets disk and then go into the layers drop-down menu and form a new adjustment layer/s and tweak the levels/curves/saturation and then flatten and then some subtle unsharp masking.

To be honest Stuart, the image that you see is straight out of the webcam colour-wise, i tweek the contrast etc in photoshop, but i set the saturation to around 35% as i take the avi and leave i at that.
Thanks for taking the time adjusting my image, it looks excellent mate :thumbsupmate:

It is amazing that you can capture so much with a webcam. I think webcams would be a good way to get into astrophotography. I think I'm going to buy one.

Good shot mate. If you wanted to print that image, how large can the print be before the resolution starts to break down?

Yes, that's good work Tony. It's amazing what you can capture with a $145 web camera!

Yes Del, i think its a great way into astrophotography. I just wheel the scope out and point it roughly south and away i go  I have to use the motor controls a lot to keep the image centred, but registax is such an excellet program, it can handle wandering images easily. Also its free :eartoear:
Get out mate, you won't regret it:thumbsupmate:

Not sure Bobby, i double the overall avi movie file by a factor of two, using another freeware program called 'VirtualDub' to 640 x 480 pixels @72ppi so its not going to blow up much before the image starts to degrade.
The size of jupiter is quite small in relation to the whole frame, even using a x2 barlow, i am planning to get a x4 or x5 barlow in the future which will give me a bigger jupiter, but the overall image size will remain 640 x 480.
I did have a little play with resizing on, see below.
Cheers......

By the way, have you had a go at imaging jupiter yet mate?

Couple of things have been holding me back from shooting Jupiter. The weather. But also the part that screws into the back of my SCT and holds the diagonal (visual back?), had been damaged. It still worked but I felt that it was causing a change in the light path resulting in an incorrect optical image. I know collimation has to be spot on for planetary imaging so after trying to collimate a few times and never being happy with the resulting alignment, I had decided that I needed a new visual back. I got the thing in the post today to say something is waiting for me at the post office.

I've also managed to borrow a DSI colour camera, but because of the weather
I haven't been able to use it. Probably won't get a chance now until early next week.
