G'day Andy,

What scope do you have riding on this?

I have read many reviews about this mount and always heard good things. I imagine you are going to love it once you get it up and running.

Are you using it for visual or photography?

Cheers

I have a tec 140 on it,

Mainly planning to do imaging on it, have had a couple of back operations and can't do the visual thing for very long now.

So is this mounted on a pier Andy? Or do you pull it out everytime you use it?

Cheers

Have three permament concrete settings with alignment pins to put the tripod in exactly the same place if I move it. Am still progressing towards perfect polar alignment, but have put marks on mount so I can get very close to previous setting by lining them up, knowing tripod is in exactly the same place.

Does mean lugging mount in and out, which is pretty heavy and a bit of a struggle for my back, but scope is nice and light and easy to position ad balance.

Would love to build a dome, but short of space (and cash now). thinking of building a cover which would go over tripod and mount (maybe switch to a pier) and be weather proof. Then alignment would be set and only would have to put scope on and a quick balance and I could get going pretty quickly.

Plans plans eh!

Hi Andy, this is what I have done mate. I have my mount head sitting on my pier covered with a towel then a plastic cover. It sits outside rail hail or shine.

All I need to do is put the telescope on top, a quick balance and I'm done.

But a dome would be nicer.

Don't you worry that water will creep into the electrics?

Was thinking of trying to get a fitted cover of some sort, wonder if anyone makes one?

You can buy scope covers from somehere. Though (I think it was Draig) someone on this forum suggested using one of those thermal blankets you can buy from the hardware store. Would be pretty easy to modify.
