I used the following to make a piggy back mount on the home brew tube rings for the 10" Newt
I purchased a couple of tripods off EBay** with a release plate. $15 ea plus $5 P&P
Incidently the QR heads from a camera shop cost $85 each!
I bolted an old radio knob onto the tube ring and clamped an adjuster to it. Then cut a small piece of tubing to go between this and the head assembly. The lower section came from another old cheapy tripod
The head has full pan and tilt and sideways adjustment and is held on with the upper clamp nut. This will carry the 350D with a large telephoto lens or a small scope and is fully adjustable and quite stable
** There are several AU EBay outlets which carry these. Late news Oz Auctions seem to have upped the postage to $19, but you can probby get one for a $1.00 or so.
Thought of the day
Necessity is the mother of invention
