This gizmo is IMPRESSIVE. I can't put it down. It finds almost anything in the sky for you and can identify every damn star I can find. Planets, nebulae, clusters etc etc etc too.

Heaps of added extras. I'm even using it in daylight to observe Jupiter and Venus!!!!

This is COOL.

They are selling laser pointer attachments with them now. I think they are made by a third party.

I've seen quite a few scopes with Sky Scouts attached to the side.

Funny thing - this is a Celestron product ... you turn the Sky Scout over and the sticker says "Made In China"

Everything is pretty much made in China now. Most of the competing astronomy brands come out of the same factory.

Sad but true.

Not because of where they are made, or the quality of the product. But just because they have driven so many business out of business. Most of the Chinese made stuff is of very good quality, but when you get a cheapie you certainly know it.

Dave, now that you have had this thing for a while is there any change in your opinion of it? Bugs, design flaws etc?

Cheers

Ray, no problems at all with the SKY SCOUT. In fact, I find it an amazing product especially for doing sky tours.

At times in the field people will randomly point to a star and ask you "what's that?" .. well ya can't know em all, Soooo, whip out the SS and vioal! you have the answer.

It will not only tell you what you are pointing it at but also give you a history through a recorded data base into supplied headphones.

If you need to find anything, star...planet... nebula just dial it up and a series of red arrows blink and point you in the right direction. It's as quick as GOTO on a scope.

It will also find almost any object in daylight too and point you to it...we found Venus in 30 secs!!!!!

Verdict? If you can afford something like $6oo-$700 - get one! You can scope mount it too with a cheap attachment.

I see Meade have something similar called "My Star" I think.
