G'day all,

I know it' been a long time since I popped up my head in these forums, until today, but I did specifically image M16 out at Tammin on Saturday night to be able to contribute something to this month's Image of the Month. :)

I took a wide field shot with my Megrez 90. Focal length is 590mm and resulting FOV is about 146 x 90 arc minutes, quite large!

The image is quite large so I've had to take two aproaches:
1) a full crop image, 70% JPG compression to keep the file size down
2) a narrow crop of just the neb, again 70% JPG compression to keep the size down :(

Hi Rog,

I prefer the full frame. In fact I love it. It really offers a feel for the Eagle and also the nebula on the far left balances everything well. So much nebulosity in that region.

I think you're right Ray - the full frame is nicer. Looking at it now I think the image has a red cast also which I need to neutralise.

I've realised that little bit of nebulosity on the left is actually the start of M17/Omega Neb ... makes me wonder if I could have just squeezed the two objects in the one frame. I might take a shot of M17 next month and do a mosaic.

Roger.

Today I updated the image with a new one, with the red cast removed.

Seems my laptop's calibration has gone out the window with these latest images from Tammin, I'm not seeing red casts on it, where as I am on other PC's.

I think the new one is an improvement, albeit not perfect. There's processing artifact around the edges by way of the increased background brightness.

Nice one Roger,:thumbsupmate:

Be a tight fit getting both in one shot. A mosaic would definitely be interesting.
