Hi all,
this taken yesterday morning. Seeing was 7/10 but Jet Stream was over the top of me and blurred some of the finer detail

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the site mate.
I have seen many examples of your work over the last 18 months in cyberspace. It is very impressive. Planetary imaging is something I am just scratching the surface of.
That is a top shot mate. :thumbsupmate:

Welcome to the site Rumples. That is a lovely shot of Jupiter. I also checked out your SDM blog - crikey, that's some serious 'scope! You'd need a mobile gantry with a hydraulic lifter to get you to the eyepiece, wouldn't you? ;-)

That DOB is an awesome peice of work Paul. Do you have plans for a roll of roof observatory or something?
Rumples Riot
April 1st, 2007, 05:39 PM
Thanks Radar, no plans for a roll off roof. I own a little unit with not much room out the back, so at this stage. No plans. Although I am hoping to come into some more money by the end of the year, with some projects I am dealing with. If that is the case I will look at buying a house.

Hey Rumples, is that really you in your avatar? If so, your 'glasses' look awfully tight. Don't you get headaches? ;-)

Hi Paul,
Very nice image of the gas giant. I have not taken any this year, too busy with projects, speaking of which, I soaked up your articles with great interest. I have been experimenting with Peltier cooling also - I have easy access to mil spec alloy sheet/plate up to 40mm thick and other types. My workshop is stacked all over with pipe, tube, flat, angle etc, have a friend at a shipbuilders!
I love the designing and making, thinking up new ideas often more than using sometimes, great when the weather is crook. Building another smaller observatory at the moment away from the 4-metre dome and on the flat nearer the house to favour a knee/s that needs replacing!
I will spend more time having a longer read about your projects, most interesting.
Did you get your DMK locally?
Clear skies...

Are you building the dome part yourself Shev? I love oogling people's observatories, don't forget to post pics when you get a chance. :thumbsupmate:

Hey thanks guys for the warm welcome.
Sheville, thanks I read your articles each month in S&S and my forum uses the mag as a reward for Ranting and Raving. A novel idea, not mine though.
Not me wake, that is Vin Diesel I think.
I will post more images from time to time, but here is a revised version of the one above.

Nice smooth finish on that image Paul. Top job. I have to ask this next question because I am curious by nature. What does Rumples Riot mean?
Cheers

Ray,
It goes back to my old Legal days. Rumpole of the bailey was a barrister in a show on TV. The riot side is a rebellion against the legal notions in me. Kind of like a conscientious objector.

I'm from pommyland way back when, so I know Rumpole of the Bailey well (only from TV, not in real life, lol).

P.S Thats one hell of a nice scope.
I've seen a lot of fancy shop bought stuff just set up but when you do mods to get it right it sure counts.
Lovely outfit and we all hope to see much more of your work.
Cheers,
Duncan

Gee, Paul, you make Jupiter seem SOOOO much closer to Australia than it is to where I am! Beautiful work, as always!
Welcome to the site. Make sure you check out the "Stellar Radio" music player link. :)

Hi Duncan,
Being a former Leeds resident, holidays in Scarborough were a regular thing, I am still in contact with a friend in Bridlington who keeps me updated on the UK decline, sad to say! You know what they find in Leeds these days, very different to my days at the old Leeds Med School - circa 1800 something!
Clearer skies down here...

Hey Paul ... G'Day!
You certainly haven't lost your touch there with the camera. Nice image of the 'Big Guy'.
Good forum this one - no naggers and no 'ego tripppers ... well, not counting me.
There's a couple of Poms on board, some odd bods from NSW you'd no doubt know and a few really strange ones we call "West Australians"

Hi Paul,
Good to see you and another great shot of Jupiter. Do you still have the Celestron that u were using at Balarat Nov 2005.
I have to admit after sitting on your PC stacking those images I was pretty well fascinated by the whole process but I've been a bit distracted by life in general from getting myself organised with a toucam. Hopefully you will hear from me later in the year.
Looking forward to your posts!:thumbsupmate:

Dave it seems like a nice forum. As you know I am involved with Stuart Allen in our forum SCP. It is not for everyone, but we like it. I also like to get away from there from time to time and this looks like a nice distraction. I might submit some of these new images to S& S, but still waiting for my solar stuff to be printed in an edition soon. I am sure you guys are very busy in that regard.
Mike I still have the Celestron. It is the work horse at the moment of my planetary imaging. I recently bought an SDM which is a lovely scope and am making some mods to it to get it ready as an imaging scope. It will eventually retire the Celestron, but not for another year yet.
Glad you both like the images and I will try to post here when I can.
Paul

You're always welcome here Paul. We are all here for the astronomy. I have met some great people in cyberspace so far.
All the best mate.
