I know a bit about this mate.

Goto start, programs, accesories, system tools, system information.

Where it says processor, x86 means 32 bit, and x64 means 64.

Can't help you on that one Shane. I have heard that 64 bit is rare, but that's about it.

All sorted Ray thanks to info supplied by Bob, my daughter was wanting to buy some software for some reason or other but it wont work with 64bit OS's. Just as well she has 32 bit OS.
Thanks for replies guys.

64 bit operating systems can take advantage of over 4 GB of RAM. 32 bit OSes will not benefit from adding over around 3.5 GB or so. I'm sure there are other differences that involve "processor architecture" and other big words nthat I don't understand, but that's the main difference that I'm aware of.

At the moment, most programs are written for 32 bit OSes (they will run on 64 bit though) but 64bit is becoming more and more common.
