Came back from church today on a bright, sunny, -6º day, and took the piece of Thousand Oaks solar film that is taped to the back of the aperture mask on my Newt, and went out to look for sunspots. I couldn't see any, so I taped the film to one side of my 10x50 binocs, and tried again. I still couldn't see the sunspot group shown on the SOHO image, so I've decided to give up.
No, actually, I'll have another look later, and see what's what. I don't have much luck with sunspots and low magnifications, and it's too much bother just now to set up my Newt again. It's been a long sunspot drought.
