View Full Version : NGC 3132 - Southern Ring Nebula

Here's another one that I managed to knock up in the last few days - NGC 3132 which is sometimes known as the southern ring nebula and also the eight burst nebula. Quite a nice planetary and pretty bright which means it didn't really require very long exposures.

Nice shot. It does look very much like the Ring Nebula in Lyra. I'm not sure if you can see that one from Australia. Can you?

Thanks for the comment. The ring nebula reaches a maximum altitude of about 15 degrees above my local horizon which is too low for me to photograph from my observatory. I did use R Jay Gabany's telescope in New Mexico to take an image of it once though just for the record.

Nice to compare the two images considering the difference in equipment used Steve but as expected yours is more refined considering

That is an awesome Ring Neb Steve. Tonnes of galaxies in that shot as well. I'm impressed.:smile:

Thanks guys. I didn't really do much regarding the ring nebula shot. It was Jay's hardware after all. Wish I had a 20" RC.

Me too, I guess an 8" will have to do me until I become a millionaire.lol
