Okay, here is my first serious attempt at processing Saturn. This event was basically a learning curve. Using programs like RGB Split, Registax etc. I'm just getting a feel for how this stuff works. I'll play with the same AVI more this week and see if I can pull more from it.
I shot this AVI two weeks ago. 500 frames at 1 frame per second. I deleted many frames before stacking.
But this is where I'm at so far.

That's actually a great start Ray.
:welldone:
RGB splitting is really quite involved, can you give us an outline on how you go about it.
I'd love a tutorial or step by step.

Hey Dusty,
I'm far from being able to write a tutorial on this subject yet. I have been surfing the net and using everyone elses resources on how to do this. This process for me was basically just learning the ins and outs of what to expect with planetary imaging. I'm going to go back and re-process this same AVI and do things differently until I learn what works for me best. It's all experimentation at the moment, so many different things are needed for one planet. It's quite an involved form of photography really.
I will post my new results soon.
Hi Ray,
Great Shot and imaging work :welldone:
Keep up the good work.
Cheers Colin
Cheers mate.

Better'n my first Saturn image! Mine was way fuzzy, and grainy too.
It's amazing how different planetary imaging is than DSO imaging.

Great first go Ray mate, well done:welldone:
What setup are you using for these shots? ie, scope, filters, any barlows?
I'd try to grab more frames if i where you 1000 (min) and see how this differs, going through 1000-1500 frames one by one is a bit of a ball-ache, but you will be pleased with the results after all that work.
Registax is a cool program, even when you use just default settings.
All the best Ray mate.........

Thanks guys. I have a long way to go, it is like learning astrophotography all over again.
Tony I was using a Meade LX50 (8 inch). I was shooting using an Acuter imager (just a cheap webcam type thing) barlowed.
I took 500 shots, 1 frame per second. I'll be shooting 5 frames per second next time though.
I'm going to go through this AVI a few more times and familiarise myself with how everything works.

Here are my first goes Ray, shot a couple of months ago.
They where taken with the skywatcher 80 ED and a x2 barlow.
The first is 1460 frames and second was 2010 frames @10 frames/second, on a quite warm night.
I did a preliminary alignment of the avi's in registax and then re-saved the avi's. Then i ran the avi's through a freeware program called 'virtual dub' to resize the whole avi to x2 of the original (because the image was still tiny with the 80ED).
Ran it back through registax, with no editing of frames (i was feeling very lazy) and instead of using the registax wavelets i did a contrast tweek in p/shop.
Not brilliant (need more aperture:eartoear: ) but i was pleased with em.
Hope some of this may be of help to you mate..........

Awesome stuff Tony. Thanks for that. The processing side of things with planetary is so different than normal DSO stuff. I love the challenge though.
Any luck with the Megrez?

Actually Ray, i have been (as you say here) a bit crook. I picked up an infection in my leg called cellulitus and it has knocked me off me feet since last tuesday.
Never felt so ill in my whole life, or had to put up with as much prolonged pain.
Getting much better now though, the swelling is going down and i'm on stronger pain pills. Can't wait to get up and about propper, lying around with yer feet up all day has only a limited appeal believe me and i can't even have a single beer:crying23: .
Anyway i want to be all right for the AGWA meeting as a fellow uk astronomy buddy i over here and wants to meet everyone:Chessy_Smile:
All the best mate..........
