Hi all,

Thought I would post this link of the proposed impact site and appox. time of the LCROSS satellite booster.

http://lcross.arc.nasa.gov/observation.htm (http://lcross.arc.nasa.gov/observation.htm)

I won't be able to see or video it, as it's currently scheduled for approx. 6:30am DST Oct. 9th 2009 at my location. It should put you guys in AU somewhere between 7:30-11:30pm DST.

Cheers

Just giving this one a little "bump" in case it's been overlooked/forgotten.

Should be an excellent target for large scopes. (Radar...)

Will it find water???

I had read about this upcoming event and I am quite interested in following this. Not often is it that such things occur.

Agreed. I was telling a friend the other day how it was a shame that it occured during daylight in Ontario since it would have been nice to try and capture a (possibly) once in a lifetime event. Then he kinda looked at me strange:weird:, but i'm getting used to those weird looks after being interested in the hobby (science) for enough time now.

Really hoping for some images of the crash to pop up on the forum after the event. Would be very interesting.

Cheers.

Thanks Tim. I missed this thread somehow. I think it would be awesome through the C14. I'll definitely make the effort to record this event. I'm downloading everything now for it.

Just checked this out on Starry Night. This won't be visible for me either. :frown:

Would have been awesome.

My calculations put it at 19.31 Western Australian time. Unless I've messed up on the time conversion, the moon is below the horizon.

According to the stats on this event, it has been understood the impact will occur at 7:31:31 Eastern Time in the U.S.A. (11:31:30 UDT) Advisement for possible visuals, using the higher-end scopes, are proported to be for those living west of the Mississippi River valley. It also concludes that the possible debris cloud of ejecta will persist for upwards of just 20 seconds as it is being reflected by the sun. Should be an interesting event to witness. -bill

NASA's LCROSS spacecraft and its Centaur booster rocket have hit the lunar surface. The impact flash from the Centaur booster rocket was not bright, but mission scientists say that could be good news, indicative of an impact in loose, relatively water-rich regolith.

On Thursday morning, Oct. 8th, amateur astronomer Pete Lawrence photographed the impact site from his backyard observatory in Selsey UK.

See http://spaceweather.com for more.

I watched this live on NASA.tv but I couldn't see anything.

Hmmm, yeah, general feedback was that it was very disappointing from a viewer's perspective. Hopefully, it will be more fruitful from a scientific perspective...

You might want to check the date...I thinks you're a little late.
