View Full Version : Infuriating Registax v5 problem....!

Thought I'd put this query here: I find myself regularly moving from R4 to R5 and back again.....not because I don't like R5 but because it seems to constantly throw up this particular foible when processing planetary images.

Despite doing all the appropriate things such as ticking the debayering box and GB etc, after the intial "align" function (where the planet takes on a greenish appearance during this alignment procedure but finishes with the planet in its correct colours) I hit "Limit" after choosing the number of frames I wish to retain.

I then create a reference frame mostly using the default number of 50 frames (unless I'm dealing with a poor avi where I don't have a decent number of frames in the total stack.)

Once I start this "create reference frame" process the planet image turns MONO and from thence onwards it stays as a mono image.....it is very frustrating particularly as if I close R5 and use R4 and do the same procedures I DO NOT have this problem and have a correct colour image all through the rest of the program....!

This problem seems to be pretty consistant and previously I asked Cor some questions but he could not give an explanation and could only eventually tell me that "no-one else had reported this particular problem".....I have tried on several pc's with several different avi's etc but it STILL KEEPS HAPPENING!!!

I will contact Cor again as it is a few months since I last emailed him but thought I'd put this out on the forums and see what others may think/know or have found themselves.....I believe I'm running v5.0.2.8 although it comes up upon opening as Registax5Beta.....but this is acknowledged as a "quirk" in v5.0.2.8 that has not been attended to.....anyone have any answers?????

Here's a sample that went "mono-feral" on me this morning as I rehashed a Joop from Saturday night.....using resampling for image size (but resampling has nothing to do with it I might add - it does it regardless!!!)

Hi Darryl,

Two words "how annoying".

These kinds of problems are very frustrating. I have very limited experience with registax 5.

What model camera are you using?

What I will say is that photo you posted shows great detail. It didn't take you long at all to get the hang of planetary work, that's for sure. Great detail (whether it's mono or colour:biggrin:).

Hi Ray, it's the DBK21 (oneshot colour) camera.....the mono Joop image in this thread is another processing of the one I posted the other day in the webcam section of MAS - that second (better, colour) process there was done in R4 and the mono above was an attempt to use R5.....but as is (most) often the case R5 goes "mono feral" on me in the "create reference frame" stages.....a real pain 'cos I like to use some of the options R5 has that R4 lacks.....but can't use because of that problem!

I've emailed Cor Berrovoets of Registax this evening again, hoping he may have uncovered something.....

This planetary imaging caper really took hold a few months ago after a couple of dabbles in the last half of 2008.....my 6" achro (which has now gone to a new "home" in NSW) was really good imho for "cutting my teeth".....right now I want to really "push the envelope" and (hopefully!!!:wink:) come up with some real "crackerjack" images with the C11 this apparition.

I'll rely on the scope being permanently outside and passive cooling for the next couple of months whilst Jupiter is at or around optimum placement.....then it'll be employing my own design for a super-efficient active cooling device which won't hang any extra weight on the OTA and provides constant filtering and de-humidifying of the air inside the scope.....using the principal of recirculating cooled air through a heat-exchange radiator as opposed to the rather crude systems employed by other set-ups.....when it is realized I'll post info etc here on MAS.

Here's the mono above at the same image scale as the reprocessed colour one in the other section.....a nice enough image (especially considering how it was achieved) BUT MONO WAS NOT what I wanted from R5!!!

If you solve that problem Darryl please post the solution. I'm sure others out there are going to get it at some stage.

Have you redownloaded and done a reinstall of Registax. Maybe something in the original setup got corrupted.

Yes, did the re-installation Ray.....but with my recent experience with IC capture.AS it might be worth another go at that too - anything is worth a repeat....!

I'll certainly post any info I find, and as I said elsewhere, I have read a number of comments from various people who've encountered unspecified problems with R5, but who, like I have done, ended up putting it in the "too hard" basket and resorting to R4 or another earlier version!

But as I said previously, there are features in R5 not on R4 that I'd like to use if possible.

I haven't heard back from Cor Berrovoets yet but will report here on any developments!!!

Good luck mate. If you are trying on different computers and getting the same problem it is probably the program. I take it you have tried on different OS's?
