My first DSLR was the Canon 300D back in 2004.
This is one of my first widefield shots after I bought the 10-22mm EF-S lens to use with it.
I actually shot this on New Year's eve, 2004.

It was still early days and a big learning curve ahead of me back then.
As you can see, it's fairly noisy and since I didn't use the lens hood I ended up with slight internal reflections.
I didn't know much about astro imaging, I only shot in jpg and ISO too high especially considering the ambient temperature was warm.

Still, I was proud of it and it only spurred me on.
Thanks for looking.

Dusty

Hey Dusty, I know the feeling of seeing your first few results. That image is great, especially for a one second exposure.

I like the way the trees have been captured.

Is this a fish eye lens?

As dusty said he has a "10-22mm EF-S lens to use with it".

see how a cheap 300D can get you going. And here i was thinking Dusty was into Film:duh:

I wish I had a fisheye lens Ray, but no it's an EF-S lens which means it only goes on DSLR's which have a crop factor (not full frame 35mm).
So I can't use it on my Canon 5D.

So like Houghy said it's a 10-22mm which after applying the x1.6 crop factor, you end up with a FOV equivalent to 16-35mm lens.

I love this lens, it's awesome for widefield MilkyWay shots.

Hi Dusty,

Just looked at your photo, it's brillant. I like the way the trees have been captured in the image. They way the trees are framed you can almost imagine yourself lying on your back looking up at Orion.

Just lovely.

Cheers Colin

Thank you Colin,

You won't believe this but I just came in from doing just that.
I enjoy taking time out sometimes and lay down on the deck chair and just enjoy the vista with nothing but the naked eye.
Even though it was partly cloudy, I enjoyed watching Crux and the sourounding region glide through the sky, while the moon gracefully rose in the east.

Glad you enjoyed the image.
