Just wondering something about the histogram in IC Capture.
I tried an AVI of Saturn last night. I brought up the histogram and typed 250 into the number box.
I also used greyscale for my monochrome camera.
To get data on the histogram to stretch right across from 0 - 250, I noticed that I could manipulate gain, gamma and exposure to achieve this. So the question begs, which setting is the best way to get the histogram data to stretch right across?
Cheers

Gday Ray I just use exposure and gain. Its tricky with gain at what level to have it to keep noise down, guess its all trail and error and keeping a log of what you do. With IC and my DBK I don't think I have ever used or adjusted the gamma setting. I saw somewhere recently Paul {Rumples Riot} suggested leaving the blue channel more underexposed then the other two.
Have you got a colour filter set ? Geez I have tried capturing Saturn a few times this season without much success, its extremely tough this time around with the rings edge on.
In the next week I'm starting off with a mono camera too, pretty excited I hope I can get some practice in with jupiter approaching opposition :smile:

I don't have a colour filter wheel yet. Will probably buy one in the next fortnight. I think I'll be getting an electronic one. Any ideas on makes and models welcome?
Yeah Saturn is a tough target at the moment. I did a few AVI's on it last night, but there was really nothing worth posting from it. I think the edge on rings make it a little harder for some reason.
Will keep plugging away at it.

I went for the Atik USB electric one in the 1.25 inch size along with the Astronomik 1.25 filter set. I ordered through Adirondack , they have them in stock.......

I think its a fairly new product the USB version, I would have liked the True Tek superslim wheel but they are expensive. Definitely go for the electric one I think you would go crazy with a manual, when you shot Jup i think you only have a 40 sec window per channel to get data so speed is essential.
The filter set I brought from OPT while they where on sale {still think they are}
