Gday got up early this morning and had the scope up and running to grab some AVI's of Jupiter . Amazing the sky was clear but within in the space of 45 minutes the sky was covered with clouds, no breeze at ground level to speak of so there must of been a bit of turbulence in the atmosphere .I managed to grab 3 avis of Jup, all 90sec long, on the capture screen it didnt look promising but after a little processing some features have come out {must get back up to speed with Jupiter feature lingo :Chessy_Smile: }

Hi Beren,
Lovely photo of Jupiter :welldone:
What type of setup are you using?
Cheers Colin

Wow, nice work mate. Good detail.
I'm not a full bottle on planetary imaging, so I have some questions for you.
3x90 second exposures? What exactly is an AVIS? I imagine it's a series of short frames? If so, why not just capture frames for 270 seconds? I'm not sure if this makes a difference.

Thanks fellas :thumbsupmate: Sorry Colin forgot to add the scope in the image info, I use a 10" Schmidt-cassegrain {Meade LX200} with a 2x barlow and the trusty Philips ToUcam 840k webcam. Ray the ToUcam I use records in video format, this is called a AVI file, unlike say the meade LPI imager that captures one frame at a time and builds up a image from many individual shots. Have a look here at this article (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?id=63,306,0,0,1,0) gives a great rundown on plantery imaging :thumbsupmate: The 90 sec is a limit on how long you can image Jupiter at the frame rate I was using on the Jupiter sequence, the surface of that planet rotates rapidly so to long and you lose clarity {thats if the seeing is good to....:hmm: and the collimation is perfect :duh: .....and the scope is cooled down :eartoear: }
