That observatory is looking good Pat. You must be itching to use it. How much more do you have to do to it?

Yeehar! Observatory's first light.
Those pics are great, especially the one of Orion. Amazing detail. Do you have a ten or twelve inch scope?

hey radar , its a 12in lx90 alt az,, pics with a DSI-II unguided.
those pics where only quick ones while i was sorting out different software and controll set-ups for the observatory.
I wish meade would use ASCOM compliant conections, it would make life easier to get everything conected.
You should have bought that 12 in lx200, they are a great size for imaging.

I will eventually get around to this mate. 12 or 14 inch. I really want to "go large" like Kevin and Perry.
How is the observatory coming along? I noticed your sudden disappearance. It must be good in there, what time can we come over?

lol, it does, but in a good way.
I did checkout those plans, but I didn't follow them 100%. What materials does the dome get made out of? Is it masonite?
Cheers

yeah radar,
the dome is made with 12mm 2400x1200 sheets of plywood, cut with a router on a jig to get the right radius. (long arm with holes in it at the right spots)each ring or rib is made of 2 layers overlapping each other for strength.
once you have the base rings glued and screwed and made up on a flat level work area, the rest is easier.once the frame is done it is covered in 4mm masonite (staple cardboard to the outside of the ribs and mark from the inside, then add half the rib thickness all round)for a template of each pannel.
Seal it all with fibreglass resin. then paint.
if you have any queries just ask i have heaps of pics that will explain it all.
