Mystery Night Sky Object

Last Tuesday evening I was setting up to photograph a green laser pointer beam exiting my dome slit, when the sky behind me started to light up with a strange orange glow! I quickly swung the camera around and captured this image.

Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Members who may have seen this posted elsewhere, please refrain from answering. I do know what it is, just curious what others might make of it.

Could it be something to do with the laser
beam reflecting off something in the sky? :hmm:

A genuine moving object caught in action, well off the ground.

I will give you a clue. It concluded a fireworks display!

It looks like a second exposure, and the light is a pin point light source moving that has trailed because of the second exposure, maybe?

So maybe it was the last firework before it exploded?

Yep, I'll go with phoenix. Definately an afterburner. Have a look at it blown up and you can just make out the jet.
