G,day all,

I'm curious to know whether a Dob base could be tilted to match latitude of where someone lives? This then is the next question. If so would something like ArgoNavis then be able to track whatever the scope is aimed at? Of course alignment to the pole would have to be spot on? I new it would only be a matter of time before i asked something that would sound crazy.
I layed in bed 2 nights ago and couldn't sleep. Three hours later i'd designed an observatory from the ground up. My poor missus didn't like the tossing and turning. So i told her i'd finally gone over the edge, and promptly left the room, lol.

Cheers,
Duncan:crazy: :pipethinker:

Theoretically, this sounds feasible Duncan. But practically, the size and design of a dob mount and telescope may restrict you in doing this. I've never used a DOB, others here can probably shed more light on this.

Did you design the obeservatory on paper? Would love to see it sometime.

Yes, this can be done, with some modifications. It then becomes a split ring type mounting. The Argo Navis does not drive the scope, it is a digital setting circles computer only. Without RA & Dec motor drives it is a "Push To" telescope, if you have RA & Dec motors then you can 'Drive To"

Argo Navis works on a Dobsonian mount as well in the same way.

Remember, a Dobsonian is a Newtonian optical system on a simple "Dobsonian" mount.

Do a 'Google' search for telescope mount designs and you will find all manner of wonderful designs, including what you have just suggested.

Clear skies...
