Star Trails with DSLR

Was just reading another article about star trail shots.

Can star trail shots be done with a standard DSLR?

I'm thinking that this is quite difficult for a ccd to replicate because of numerous reaons.

I googled this but only found a few images. With star trails I don't think DSLR's can compete with film.

I don't think DSLR's can shoot star trails as well as film can. This is one region where film is superior, though I have never used a DSLR, I could be wrong (it's happened before).

I think a DSLR would need heaps of memory to record a two or four hour star trail shot. Film would probably be more practical here.
