Excellent. Those newsletters are really great.
In your Mars story photograph are there footprints in the sand that I see, and vegetation under a blue sky? I must have missed the landing. LOL

Dave is there anyway we can get hold of "Secrets of the Universe"?
I would like to see this. In fact, I like watching any kind of space related shows (obviously).
Astro Dave
February 11th, 2007, 05:15 AM
Thanks Phoenix for the kind words. Thanks also Robert for your support. The mars pic, well... yes, let's call it "a reasonable facsimile" of what the story represents.
Radar, 'Secrets Of The Universe' is a full one-hour astronomy show I put on to large audience groups and schools throughout NSW. It has high power graphics, sound effects and some video footage complete in a Powerpoint presentation.
I run the Astronomy Outreach program and the idea is to educate teachers and the kids in astronomy/space. It has been a phenomenal success, we're booked out years ahead, and so far we've been to something like 200 schools throughout NSW. The program has literally taken 3 years to develop.
Courtesy of Tasco, we place a free telescope and accessory package at every school for them to start up their own astronomy club.
Radar, 'Secrets of the Universe' is the night version of what we do. It is for the general public mate, and you'd enjoy it. I've even run it outdoors on a drive in theatre type screen!

Astro Dave
February 19th, 2007, 06:28 AM
Thanks fo the kind words also Shevill, Radar and Robert. Its the newsletter that is sent out to the media basically, never was meant to be a general distribution but I must say I've had lots of requests, so it goes out to all and sundry.
Sure, there are lots of slick newsletters out there - this is all home grown baby, from trial and error but it gets the job done.
By the way, pass on ANY quirky/unusual stories to me you might see about space/astronomy. The stations like these.
Straight stuff I get plenty of, but something like this is good value: "A West Australian astronomy enthusiast, known only as 'Radar' was rescued by fireman yesterday from inside his telescope tube. It seems Mr. 'Radar' was attempting to clean his main mirror and fell in and got stuck. Neighbours were alerted to his predicament by the foul language emanating from his basement."
You get the picture.

Hi Dave,
Here is a cut and paste from the West Austalian Newspaper that may be interesting to you.
N.S.W was stunned yet again today by another meteor shower hoax. The suspect (hoaxter), known only as Astro Dave is beleived to be throwing shovels of barbeque embers in front of his neighbours windows during the night in order to promote the hobby of astronomy. Calls to the Sydney observatory from the victims is what has alerted the authorities to the hoax meteor showers. A spokesperson from the Australian Astronomical Society said they were aware of the hoax and it was best just to leave Astro Dave alone

Oh great, Radar's on to my escapades.... who else??? How did you find out? I thought I was so clever.
Time to fess up to other nocturnal shenanigans - I used to float candles on little baskets below balloons and fly them across the neighbourhood then call the radio stations to report UFOs.

Col, I have special caffeine (check the correct spelling) here on the east coast - it's a little home made concoction whose secret (well not anymore) ingredient is 'malt whiskey'... hic! ... and that is wot keeps me upright most of the time.

HI Dave,
Please forgive my appaling spelling, TYpinG, looks etc etc etc.
As for your malt whisky, my father used to swear by two of our local birds for his ability to stay upright all night - swaying badly but upright none the less.
