Holy cow Tim, you sure are getting some amazing detail there. Top marks. Are you going to get a filter wheel sometime? I need one to, but I think I'll learn the reigstax craft first.

My DSI Pro II will be on ebay soon to Adrian. I want to experiment with a DSLR soon. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks Ray, I reprocessed the first image, even got some more detail. I'll post it a little farther down in the thread.

Actually I bought the orion filter wheel quite sometime back. Handy, but truthfully, if I can ever afford it, a motorized one is the way to go.

Mine SOLD! got my asking price...It basically cost me $150 to use it for eleven months..lOl (it brought $400)

Take my advice, don't get one of these...it's a pain in the butt, and the learning curve is very steep.

Me too!! I'm going with a Canon XSI 450d. It has the live view focus, 12.2mp, 14bit conversion and I can pick one up for about $700 with an 18-55 IS lens for 'happy snaps'. I will get it modified later for astrophotography.

Thanks for the comments fella's:smile: Cheers

Here's the redeux of the first pic. Actually I just forgot to open it up in photoshop and use a bit of the smartsharpen filter to help bring out a little more detail on Jupiter and make the moons stand out a little more.

That second shot is much better Tim. Great detail. I'll have to shoot this object again soon.

With the DSI, I always knew it took average shots, but I didn't want to spend heaps on a camera in case I found CCD wasn't for me (I've always been a film guy). I'm not sure what other CCD cameras are going for these days, but the DSI was a bit of a learning curve, but getting my first results with it was a buzz. If your budget allows Adrian, go for something else. But for me, this taught and showed me what I wanted to know.

Something I have noticed...I watch and buy off ebay quite a bit, you can almost always find a new or used DSI on there for sale.

I have never seen an Orion SSDSI 2(which has the same chip as the pro 2) up for auction. Makes me think that those who buy the orion model, keep'em.

Most everyone using a Meade DSI, winds up looking for a way to cool it(the orion and atik models are cooled) but by the time you modify it with a cooler(there are several available) the cost goes up enough that it looks like to me one would be better off just buying a cooled ccd cam and be done with it.

The Atik 314L ccd, uses the same size chip as the DSI pro III(I have a list of cams and the chips they use, specs, prices etc.) That one (or the 314E) gets my vote for a monochrome imager. I enjoy the emission line imaging aspect of photography, I will probably eventually go with one of those two. (unless something better comes along by the time I can afford it.)

Cheers:smile:
