I made a 3D animation of the observatory I am building in my back Paddock

The obs in on my own property but it will consist of a clubroom for the Snake Valley Astronomical Association (SVAA) and members will have open use of the whole obs.

The 1st video was 74Mb and my website and You Tube rejected it coz of its massive size!!! It showed inside all the rooms and the control centre (desks and all!!!).

So I made a shorter one at only 4Mb. It only shows the outside and is very short, but it gives an idea of what the finished product will look like.

The real Observatory is already under construction and about 50% completed

Here is the 3d Animation of what it will look like
Link removed due to newer version of the video I have made. See post further down for the new link

Here are 2 images from the HUGE animation. One is the controlroom, and the other is obvious

Hi Ken. That design looks VERY functional and practical. I like it. Not a too awful expensive venture either. And if you wanted to expand, looks like you could come off the middle (a 'T' shape) with another roll off.

Where's the fridge?

Where's the fridge? Yep, Tim. Lots of room to expand!

And 3.5 acres to build more

Oh, and the fridge will be next to the TV, stereo, DVD player, etc etc

Wow, how cool.

Love how you've set it up. How did you make the animation?

Cheers

Hi Ken

Don't worry about the clubroom, just move in!

Thanks for sharing your project.

Out of interest Ken, do you need planning permission and building regulations approval ??
Here in the UK it would be a real hassle.

Here in the UK it would be a real hassle.Yes Gyro, I had to get a building Permit.

The planning Dept wasn't interested as it doesn't breach any planning regulations, so they just said 'Go ahead'.

But I had to apply for a building permit for the main building. They aren't interested in the roll-off sections as there are no regulations about rolling rooves! Once I finish, the inspector comes out and checks it.

Still too many regulations about putting small buildings up, but I have complied with all their requirements for this one (which weren't many).

I didn't know what section to put this in, so I just threw it in here

I had another play in Google Sketchup. This time I drew a reflector Telescope.

I still have lots to learn about the program, but here is the Telescope: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mir1QF4WmvE

Up here "no regulations" is all they need to invent some. :frown:

A co-incidental barby couldn't hurt when the Inspector is due....might even get a new recruit

Gyro, there is a place in England that sells little roll-off roof observatories. Surely you don't need a permit for one of their range. They are only small: http://www.taylorsgardenbuildings.co.uk/observatory_sheds.html

Ken,

Looking absolutely brilliant. Fancy having something like that in the backyard.

Do you still have the tiny obs you build earlier?

Cheers
Rob.

Rob.Yes Rob, I am still using it

It is still rated as the smallest Roll-Off-Roof Observatory in the world  (according to the folks in Cloudy Nights).

It serves its purpose for now :lmao:

very neat looking observatory. if i ever got an obs, I would like something compact like that.

i think that design could become more and more common. very easy to maintain and move if needed. and i guess its cost effective.

I'll say. Did you ever post any pictures or details of how you went about building this mini observatory?

Nope, never thought of it.

It was a small cubby left over from my old Cubby House business. I used to make miniature versions of the parents house for kids.

All I did was made the roof roll off
