Strange illusion it appears to dip lower, but its ballistic and way up and out over the horizon too, an amazing sight in the skies of a Space age.

What an awesome photo. I imagine the Earth's rotation plays a part in bending the trail. The Shuttle would be heading straight up, but from our perspective with the Earth's rotation, it look like it's levelling out.

I could be wrong here Radar but I don't think a 8 min' or 2 degs Earth rotation is contributing much to the trail effect. Shuttles use a greater horizontal arc accellerated launch flight path, than vertical, in order to achieve a low orbit circular track. I am happy to be corrected on this.
