I thought I would post probably my best image of Mars taken on the 7th of January. I don't know why I didn’t post this one earlier? :frown: I am very happy with the amount of detail that I captured on Mars. I am also very happy with how well my little 8" SCT is performing. :woot:

Details:

Celestron 8SE SCT f/20 - 4000mm
DMK 21AU04.AS + 2x Barlow
Processed with R4

Wow, great detail Matty. Looks like a massive dust storm. I was looking at Mars last night through a LX200 16 inch, could only make out some very faint dark patches. Your photo from an 8 inch kills the views I had. That camera sure is awesome. I can't wait to get one. How much processing went into this?

Cheers

I have to say that my processing skills are improving but I still need to learn much much more. For all my images I only use Registax 4 for stacking and adding slight wavelets.

I am very happy with this camera I can't wait to use it on the Moon. If you don't have one you are missing out!

Ray, If you were going to buy this camera. Which one would you get? Mono or Colour?

I'd probably go mono Matt. Mono is not too bad with normal ccd imaging, but with planetary I think an decent filter wheel would be important for mono. Something that can be changed quickly without causing too much vibration to the actual scope. Do you have a filter wheel yet?

Not yet, I'm hoping to get either a Atik or Orion filter wheel in the near future and some Astronomik RGB filters aswell.

Have you used your DSI for planetary imaging yet?

Lovely Mars Matty:thumbsupmate:

Have you tried Gimp? It's a FREE processing program. It does everything you need to start with.

I'm quite happy with Registax, but I will give it a try.

Yes I've tried but I can't seem to get a nice image on the screen. The image always seems to be overexposed in certain parts. I'll post one shortly.
