Hi all,

Here is my ONLY Mars image out of around 50ish avi's taken over a couple of nights. I'm having Big problems with my laptop and Vista since before xmas, sent off 3 times and going back for the 4th!! Not only does it crash n freeze on me something is wrong with the graphics card(so we have been told). All the avi's and images captured and processed on the laptop are completely useless on my desktop. Spent 4-5hours the other night backing everything up and transferring onto the desktop to find that although they look ok on LT, quite bright in fact, they are near complete blackness on the DT!!!:nooooooooo:
I'm now starting to lose the plot and my sanity over this LT and Vista(now a swear word in my household).
Anyway, here is the ONLY one i've managed to save. Not great i know but considering the problems and the size scope used i'm happy with it. At least you can see some detail:wink:
Celestron 4 SE @f13, Toucam pro, 2xbarlow(3x ordered:wink: ) 350 frames out of 1000(it was blowing a gale when this one was taken!). Stacked in Registax4 and processed in Gimp2.4.

Wow Karah, that's would be a great shot under good conditions, excellent considering you shot it during a typhoon:thumbsupmate: well done!

Vista :hmm:

Vista came on my laptop as well. The biggest trouble I've had is out of the Kodak Easyshare program. I had the XP version and ofcourse it doesn't like vista very much, so I upgraded on line, but it still doesn't work right. It actually seems to be competing with the photoshop program for picture rights, LOL.
I did have some trouble out of Starry Night and a couple of others...On one program, I had to manually take the install disc out of the drive, it would totally freeze up the LP during the middle of installation.
BUT all in all, I still like vista.I now run it in BASIC mode which resembles the old XP version, which allows most programs to run just fine.IF you run vista in the AERO mode, a lot of programs will not work due to the graphics.

Karah under the circumstances that is a great image. I've stayed away from Vista for this exact reason though.

I know how hard planetary photography is, so job well done! Keep em coming.

Thanks all:smile:

The laptop is Compaq running Vista home premium version:mad: . When we bought this back in May you had no choice but to have Vista otherwise we would have stuck to XP.

I am in the market for a new LT, primarily cos' I want to upgrade to a 17inch screen, probably stick with Dell. My "computer buff" pals advise, if possible, to wait for the first Vista service pack. It does seem resource hungry, hence the improved standard specs'. The Latest Dell and Sony I have played with seem to run awfully hot too.

I run Vista Business on my DT. Would have thought I would have learnt my lesson but no this is the 4th time I have installed Vista on this PC. With the original install disc I found Vista to be a little unstabe and would crash whenever you looked at the screen, but I have downloaded the Stability pack and the pre release service pack, available from Microsoft website, and Vista has become quite stable. All of the software I want to run is OK under Vista.
