I wonder if anyone can help please.

We are using Images Plus version 2.82 and I recently bought a new laptop which runs Vista. I cannot get IP to recognise my Canon EOS 400D in the camera control panel. When I connect the camera and try to bring it up it comes up with a "Function Handle Error" and then "Unlisted Error" boxes and in the camera control panel says "No camera. Check USB cable and power."

I have installed all the drivers I can find on Canon's website, and the laptop recognises the camera and downloads images in photoshop.

I have asked the question on the IP forum, but haven't had any helpful replies.

Any ideas?

This is starting to drive me nuts!

When I got Images Plus a few versions back I had I think similar problems trying to get my Nikon D70 to work. The solution was I had to install the cameras drivers that are on the installation disk into one of the programs files....memory is rusty on the fine details but everything was fine once that was done. Surprised you haven't received definite help on the IP yahoo group, when I posted the problem Mike Unsold got back quickly.

Tanks Beren

Don't suppose you could think back to how you did that?

I guess that with the holiday season a lot of people are away - maybe Mike Unsold is too!

Hi Trish,

Can you get the computer to recognise the camera without IP? You may need to re-install IP.

Also try these -

Ray

Thanks for the links Ray, I'll have to try a reinstall of IP - the laptop does recognise the camera in photoshop and I can download pictures into photoshop, it's just seems to be IP that doesn't recognise the camera.

I just uninstalled IP and then reinstalled it. It still wont recognise the camera. Any other suggestions? Anyone?

Just to remind you the laptop does recognise the camera and downloads pictures into photoshop - it's just IP that doesn't seem to think there's a camera connected.

G'day Trish,

Have you been through this -

http://www.mlunsold.com/ILCameraControl.html

You may need the Image Plus Camera Control programme in order to use IP on Vista.

Keep me posted on if this helped.

Good luck.

Thanks Ray

I had read all that information earlier - I somehow missed the fact that you needed to buy a seperate program so it would run on Vista! That might explain why there hasn't been an answer to my question on the IP group! I'm not sure I'm too happy about having to fork out more money just to get an upgrade to see if it works on Vista. I noticed that the upgrade applies to Vista and XP - so if it works on XP, why wouldn't it work on Vista?

I think I'm still just as confused.

Yeah it's a shame you need to fork out more money to get that program to work on Vista. To be honest, I'll stay away from Vista for a year or two yet, wait for all the software to catch up, then get it. When Vista came out, it only took a week or two before I was reading things all over the internet from people who couldn't get their programs to work. This is why I'm staying away for now.

How much is that Vista Control Program Trish?

Looks like it's $60US to upgrade from Images Plus 2.75 to 3.....sorry Trish I thought you had the latest version {didnt know version 3 was out} and assumed it was Vista compatible. Bugger, looks like you'll need the Image Plus Camera Control programme Ray linked to run your camera via IP with Vista....no luck yet from the Yahoo group?

Thanks guys

I finally got an answer from Mike Unsold - he'd been away for the holiday season (which is fair enough)

It seems I have to upgrade grrr... but at least only the camera control part which is US$25.00 not the whole program. The version I have (must have been one of the last people to buy the older version  ) isn't compatible with Vista - at least the camera control part isn't.

So I guess I have to decide whether to spend just US$25.00 or upgrade the whole program for an extra US$35.00. I'm thinking that it's probably more economical (not cheaper!) to upgrade the whole program now and not have to in a few months time.

Thanks for looking for me guys - I appreciate the help.

excuse me for not knowing much about astronomy but what exactly does this program do?

It does a lot of things - it is an image processing package, but it also can be used to focus your camera by connecting the camera to the computer and using the computer to focus.

Hope this makes sense - I'm sure a few others here could put it more succinctly than me.
