Hi group,
I received the Astro-Physics 10.5 x 70 mm binculars as a brithday present this year. (http://www.astro-physics.com) They are A-P's version of the Chinese binoculars sold under a number of different names. My wife, Claire, knew that A-P had a reputation for delivering quality (how many, many times have I lusted after one of their 'scopes or mounts...waiting, waiting years and years on the list?). Anyhow, she checked the site and saw that Roland Christen said he was testing each unit sent out so that it will match the quality A-P is famous for. These binoculars live up to the reputation.
It was with these binoculars that I observed Comet McNaught for the few nights here in Connecticut that the lower, western horizon was without clouds! Fantastic! I also dragged Claire out on the cold, clear nights (the few we had) after Christmas to take in, in full, the wonders of the Pleaids! So, here is my observing report (not technical):
Sharp to the edges, no false color (even on full moon), no fringing. Good light gathering ability; kind of heavy - mount it on a tripod. Fuss-budget - each eyepiece must be focused independently, good about that is the range is +/- 4.5 diopters - so I was able to focus without my glasses! Long eye relief. Buy them again? You bet!
Regards to all,
