MyAstroSpace.com was launched in December 2006.

We have many unique features and many great members. So please don't be shy!

If you are on a slow connection or simply want pages to load faster, then please select Light Bandwidth Mode by using the drop down menu at the bottom left of this page.

Use the same drop down menu to select night vision mode for when you are star gazing and surfing the net simultaneously.

Astro Video's found on the homepage are targeted more toward users with broadband connections. We have 100 Astro Clips. We hope you sit and be entertained by these clips whilst you sip your favourite beverage on any given evening.

Our Astro Chat rooms are also quite handy for Astronomy lovers. They are very simple to use. Simply register on these discussion boards if you haven't already and hit (not literally) the Astro Chat link above. Once you are in the chat room, you can select which room you would like to use or even create your own room and password it. You can then invite other users into your room.

Games are great parent and kids. You can create tournaments with other members or simply battle for high score.

Our Astro Blogs are where some of you may find you want to log your Astro experiences. Blog is short for Web Log. So if you have something regular you would like to add to MyAstroSpace.com, the Astro Blog maybe the place for you.

We have news feeds from various scientific journals, Sky At Night TV and an abundance of NASA TV.

The best way to learn how to use the features on MyAstroSpace.com is to simply experiment.

Feel free to post any questions or feedback here.

I notice that the high scores in the arcade are getting higher and harder to beat. My high scores are slowly disintegrating. I'll have to work on them.

Hi everyone, I have just registered, looks like a warm and welcoming site.

Just one question though, I was filling in my profile and I tried to load my avatar but couldn't. Is it because the site is still under construction?

Given the constraints of privacy and security would it be possible for all members to give a location, no matter how vague.
I think this would contrbute to member interaction, geographically speaking.
And if it appeared in the members list it would be easy to see who is where.
As the site becomes larger and the word spreads, this information will be increasingly useful

An excellent suggestion from gyro - Can this be done Radar old chap? I'd certainly be interested in where everybody lives.

(Wouldn't it be crook if we found out we all lived in the same neighbourhood!)

AstroTasmania

Excellent idea, something I have suggested on some user groups I contribute to.

Now I know that Gyro lives in my part of the world from his details. I left Yorkshire (Headingley & Leeds Med School) way, way back. Same neck of the woods as the late Fred Hoyle & Fred Watson, must be something in the water that makes Yorkshire men keen on astronomy. Fred Watson & I used to go to meetings at Leeds University Astronomical Society, not at the same time though.

Hello Gyro, welcome to the group, I hope you enjoy meeting people who see Orion upside down, still find it strange!

Clear skies...

Shevill

Geographical location can be done. Not with the members list though, but with something else much better. I'll integrate it as soon as I know it's stable. :thumbsupmate:

Hi Shevill, Small world, if we ignore hemispheres, When not travelling I am taking the waters just north of Leeds.
I attend the annual "Astromeet Day" held by the Leeds Astonomical Society at Leeds Uni' .Always a great line up of lectures with Alan Chapman providing a fun finale. Are you still in touch with LAS, I can send the Web link & email. Your prior association could help to introduce this site to the LAS

Don't forget that other well-known Yorkshireman, James Cook. Not that he was an astronomer but surely he'd make it as an honorary member of the group!

I think James Cook was an astronomer to some degree in his day. He was one of the first to work out the phases of Venus for a transit which is pretty cool for a yorkshireman.

I am sure it was a 'typo' but you missed the capital 'Y' off us,

Why is it then, that Yorkshire is the only place in the world where you eat your pudding with the main meal? "Yorkshire Pudding". That is one strange meal.

Pretty cool indeed, Ray. He was also one of the first to successfully determine latitude, thanks to John Harrison's amazing timepieces. And he was a pioneer in providing the nutritional needs of his crew, especially in how to reduce the risk of scurvy. An amazing man.

Hi Gyro,

It would be interesting to see what is happening at the LAS, the link would be appreciated. We also have another well-known astronomer Yorkshireman in Oz, Prof. Fred Watson, he is the Astronomer I/C at our Anglo Australian observatory on the mainland. I met and chatted with him a couple of years back, about the old days, he was at Leeds Uni & LAS as well.

It is 4:35 am here with a brilliant sky and stars down to the horizon. Jupiter is overhead. See my recent post on DSLR 350D Direct Sky Shots to see 30 seconds worth.

I hear they keep finding 'bad men' in Leeds these days!! so sad.
