DIY Solar Filter

This design utilizes a 150mm (6") PVC storm water end cap which I jig-sawed a 5" hole out of, made a collar from a piece of MDF and used one of my scraps of solar film to securely sandwich the film between the end cap and the MDF (painted flat black) using some small s.s. self tapping screws.

I used some of that foam strip that you can purchase from Bunning’s etc with the adhesive back, I fixed that to the inside of the cap tube so that the whole shebang is a snug fit onto the end of the apo's dew cap....

and just to ensure that there was absolutely no way for it to fall off whilst obbing etc I drilled and tapped around the perimeter of the cap's tube section so that I could put 4mm nylon screw threads in as shown (available at Jaycars or electronic retailers.)

I slip it on, it is quite snug and secure but I then twitch up the 3 nylon screws and the whole thing is rock solid.....my jig-sawed hole in the end of the cap was 5" to use the apo's full aperture, and I finished the job by making a mini version using a 50mm (2") PVC end cap....!
